To all Sluice Pill users and those accessing the slipway via the sluice bridge. Imerys marine contractor, TMS, will be on site this coming Thursday and Friday (26th & 27th June), undertaking structural works on and around the sluice bridge (removing the old sluice winches and platform). This will likely mean closing the bridge for that period. Some mooring ropes within the sluice will be altered during the works and access through the main sluice maybe impacted for those two days.

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that our dear friend and valued committee member Andy, passed away at the weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with Andy’s family. Andy was a Boat Club committee member right from the start of the club back in 2000 and was a key member when the club was “getting off the ground”. He has undertaken many tasks, including general repairs to the slipway and other club assets, as well as his long standing commitment, together with Simon, ensuring the slipway and steps were kept clean and safe for us all to use. Andy spent countless hours at the docks, keeping a watchful eye on things. His work and commitment to the club will be greatly missed. We will let you know when funeral details have been announced as, no doubt, many members will wish to attend. Rob.

To all slipway and sluice pill users. Imerys marine engineering contractors (TMS) will be on site from the 2nd June for approx. 6 weeks. They will be undertaking structural maintenance works along the North wall and also the sluice bridge area. This work may impact sluice pill berths as movements in and out could be restricted and trailered boats maybe redirected via the roadway to the West of the sluice pill. If you have any concerns or questions, please let me know and I will feed it back to Imerys for clarification. Rob.

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL MEMBERS. Following recent communication with Imerys, it has been agreed that a personal floatation device (PFD) must be worn by each member of your party whilst afloat within the confines of Par Harbour, on both departure and return. This new PFD ruling also applies to all persons accessing the walkway and steps, or any other area within 2.0m of a vertical edge adjacent to open water. The definition of a PFD would include Lifejacket, Life Vest, Life Preserver, Floatation Suit or Ski Vest. This new ruling applies with immediate effect and will be added to future issues of SABBC Club Rules. Rob Hancock, Secretary.

Following further clarification from Imerys, and their kind offer to use their weighbridge, The Executive Committee has concluded the following actions for boat club members: If you think the combined weight of your vehicle, boat and trailer is over 3.0 tonnes, please carry out the following procedure.
- On your next visit to the harbour (with your boat), go over the weighbridge and note the combined weight of your vehicle, boat and trailer. You will observe your gross weight on the display screen through the weighbridge window, This gross weight should then be written in our signing in register, either under your name or within the “Department/Address” column.
- When using the weighbridge, please give priority to Imerys or other commercial vehicles wishing to use it and obey any instruction given by Imerys Personnel.
- Reflective waistcoats should be worn when at this location.
- If your gross weight is over 3.5 tonnes, you should not go over the weak bridge, but gain access to and from the slipway via the access road to the north of the sluice pond.
- If your gross weight is under 3.5 tonnes, you should proceed over the weak bridge and access the slip in the normal way.
- This Procedure is only required on one occasion unless your gross weight increases/decreases.
- Please notify the committee through the FB page of any difficulties or concerns you may have.
Thank you for your cooperation on this matter - The Executive.

In the event of a Fuel/Oil spillage please use the spillage kit provided. There are two sacks of Safety Tread Absorbent Granules under the desk in the Signing In shed. These are to be placed on the spillage to absorb the leakage. There is a dustpan and brush along with a hand shovel in the SPILLAGE KIT BIN. This is to be used to clean up the spillage waste which should then be placed in the SPILLAGE WASTE BIN. Don’t forget to log this incident in the Incident Book (which is in the Signing In Shed) and report spillage to a member of the committee. If there is a discharge into the water, please let Clay Control know on their EMERGENCY ONLY NUMBER: 01726 828999 as this type of incident is reportable and specialist booms are required to absorb the film from the surface of the water.

Temporary Launching and Retrieving restrictions at Par Harbour. Dear Members, As the weather is due to warm up (ever so slightly), you may wish to launch at Par over the holiday period. Please be aware that our neighbouring business, Keynvor Morlift, presently have a large barge and machinery moored just outside of our slipway. Whilst launching and retrieving of boats will still be possible, the approach to the slipway will not be straight forward and you should allow additional time for yourselves and other users. A stern anchor is also deployed on the seaward side and marked with a bouy. The barge will be in place for approximately 3 weeks. SABBC Committee.

Club Updates There have been a few items of interest that are worth sharing with you at this time:
- The executive Committee have recently secured a contract with Cornwall Defibrillators to instal and maintain a DeFib unit at the Harbour. It is likely to be mounted on the wall of the Pilots Office and will be available for emergency use by club members and an other user of the harbour complex. Training and awareness will be organised following installation
- We Have also purchased a First Aid Kit and Burns Point, these are located within the sign in shed
- All members are reminded that any correspondence relating to the boat club or any operations at Par Harbour should be directed through the committee. Individuals should not contact Imerys Managers or Agents without consulting the committee.
- Although Covid rules have been further relaxed in recent weeks, we should still observe basic instructions. ie if you are suffering from Covid symptoms you should stay away from the harbour. Revised sign in procedure, ie bring your own pen etc, should continue at this time.
- Members are reminded that up to date stickers should be displayed on both vehicle and boat, together with all persons entering the docks carrying their entry passes. Failure to do this may result in refusal of entry and use of the slipway.
- Although we held several Saturday morning meetings recently for new members we are still holding several membership packs that have not been picked up. Your last chance to pick up your pack will be at the AGM. If we still have packs after that time, those memberships will be terminated, and any fees paid will be refunded.
- Following the outbreak of war in Ukraine. The committee has voted unanimously to donate the sum of $5000 from club funds to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal

Boat Club update
Both The Executive Committee and General committee met recently in order to plan the future operation of the club, following the relaxation of Covid 19 restrictions. The main topic for discussion being the necessity to receive and process membership applications from existing members as well as new members of the club. Followed by issuing of passes and safety inductions for our new members. Historically, this has been successfully carried out at General Meetings held at the St Austell Brewery Visitor Centre. However, the recent restrictions on public gatherings and a significant increase of costs to hold a meeting, has led us to ask ourselves “Do we need to meet on a regular basis?” the reply from both committees was a unanimous NO, we do not. Excepting for the need of an Annual General Meeting. Effective communication to and from the committee should be largely unaffected as we now have a Club Website and Facebook page as well as individual email addresses and telephone numbers for the Executive Committee members. The General Committee will meet every three months in order to maintain and operate the clubs’ functions and deal with any ongoing issues. The following information is of great importance to you if you wish to renew your Boat Club membership for 2022.
- Membership Application Meetings will be held at The Pilots Office from 10.00am to 1200 noon on the following dates:
Saturday 16th October Saturday 20th November Saturday 11th December Saturday 8th January 2022
- Membership fee is to be increased to £100 for renewal and £125 for new members. Non-Launching members will be increased from £1 to £2 per person.
- Closing date for renewal will be 12.00 noon, 8th January 2022. After that time, remaining spaces will be issued to new members. There is a substantial list of people wishing to join the club, therefore, your chances of re-joining after the 8th January are low.
- Renewed passes for 2022 will be available for collection from the Pilots Office between 10.00am and 12.00 noon on Saturday 8th January 2022.
A membership form accompanies this letter, you may wish to complete the form prior to arrival at one of the meetings listed above. You will, of course, need to bring an up to date passport size photo and your payment in the form of cash or cheque.
Finally, The Executive and General Committees wish to thank all our members for adhering to the additional Covid rules implemented just over 12 months ago. This has enabled the club to continue to function, whereas many other sporting activities were seriously curtailed or ceased completely. We must thank Imerys Manager, Brian Curnow and his team, as well as our own committee for work carried out “behind the scenes” in order that our sporting activities may continue.
Should anyone have any concerns or suggestions please comment through the SABBC website or Facebook page.
Wishing everyone safe and enjoyable times on the water.

The Executive Committee wish to state that, during Lockdown 3, Recreational Angling is permitted as a form of daily exercise. Also, that the slipway and launching facilities remain open to our members. However, strict LOCKDOWN RULES remain in place, including the modified sign in procedures, our members must not jeopardise their own safety, the safety of Imerys staff or other workers at the Harbour during the remainder of the lockdown period. The amount of time spent at the harbour should be kept to a minimum and interaction between groups should be avoided.
Another consideration should be the protection of our Emergency Services. Whilst they remain fully operational and should be called upon in an emergency, simple precautions such as checking the quantity and condition of your fuel before launching, could be the difference between a good or disastrous day at sea.
Please stay safe and enjoy you boating.
The Executive.

We are pleased to inform Boat Club members that the requirement to pre-book a launching slot at the slipway will cease as from tonight, Sunday, 7th June. The sign in station at the slipway remains in operation and members will need to bring their own pen and, of course, continue to observe social distancing measures when using walkways and shared spaces. The committee would like to thank you all for your continued cooperation during the pandemic. Stay Alert, Stay Safe. Enjoy your time on the water.

The Executive Committee continue to communicate with Imerys regarding the reopening of the slipway. Stringent new procedures will need to be put into place, and approved, before the harbour complex is to be reopened for recreational activities. This will undoubtedly take many days to achieve. In the meantime, we ask Boat Club members to remain patient and not to attempt to launch at Par until official confirmation is obtained

A few new members since the last meeting. Welcome to the St Austell Bay Boat Club! If you know of any other club members who would like to join please point them in the right direction. This is a light hearted group where club meeting dates and times are posted, useful and relevant information can be shared and of course feel free to put up your photos of days out in the bay! It's a bit quiet at the moment as not many of us are out in our boats, but hopefully with the new season ahead of us we can all make this an active, interesting and useful group. If you have any questions or concerns that you would like us to pass on to the committee please let us know.
